Will It Be a Stone Wall?

Roger Stone is a well known effective political operative.  He is also an author of a few books.  His latest news is that there are two dozen women who are about to come forward to reveal that each of them was sexually assaulted by Bill Clinton.

This raises a few questions:

1.  The obvious first question is whether or not Stone's claim is accurate.  He is careful to say that some of the women are terrified of retribution should they tell the public of Bill's actions.  That will allow Stone leeway should none or only some of the women come forward.  There is also the issue as to whether or not these women can be believed.  For that, we should rely on Hillary Clinton's stand that women who claim to have been sexually assaulted ought to be believed unless their claims can be disproven.  The reality is that if even half of these women actually come forward with accusations of sexual assault by Bill Clinton, it will make him into another Bill Cosby (only less funny).

2.  If there is an outpouring of women who charge that Bill assaulted them, how will the media cover it?  Much of the mainstream media will circle the wagons around their chosen candidate Hillary and try to protect her from the effect of these charges.  That won't work, however, to keep the story quiet.  First, there is too much media now that is no longer controlled by the mainstream organizations.  Second, if candidates like Donald Trump talk about this, or better yet hold a press conference with many of the women, there is no way that the media can bury the story.

3.  We will need to see just how Hillary responds to these charges in order to gauge what effect, if any, this will have on her candidacy.  Remember, Hillary is running as the "defender" of women.  Her announcement that women who say that they have been assaulted must be believed will haunt her if she tries to defend Bill.  The problem, of course, is that few people who have watched Bill over the years would believe him in this situation.  We all know about Monica Lewinsky, an affair to which Bill admitted.  We know too about Paula Jones and Bill's payment of close to a million dollars to her to settle her claims against him.  Then there's Juanita Broderick who claims that Bill raped her.  There's also Kathleen Willey who worked in the White House and who says that Bill assaulted her right at the time when her husband had just died.  There's more, but that's enough.  The saying is that where there's smoke there's fire, but with Bill it's more like a six alarm fire.

We will all be waiting to see if Stone's claim is true and these women come forward.  If so, Hillary is about to have some really big trouble.
