The media is busy telling the world that according to polls Joe Biden's support surged last week because of the roll out of his campaign. That misses the reality of what actually happened. For once, let's be honest about politics. Last week, Bernie Sanders came out strongly in favor of granting prison inmates including people like the Boston Marathon bomber the right to vote. Indeed, he now labels the denial of voting rights for incarcerated felons as "voter suppression". Bernie has some weird ideas but most of them are hard to follow. People like the sound of Medicare for All, but they don't really understand the way that such a system would operate. Right now, it's just a slogan. Letting terrorist bombers vote, however, is easy to understand, and people hate the idea. A recent poll showed that voters reject this idea by about a 4 to 1 margin. It's not often that any policy proposal is so roundly rejected. Bernie's support fell big time as a result.
It's not to say that Biden didn't get a rise in support when he announced. He did. It wasn't anything more than the normal sort of reaction one would expect. The reason why Biden opened such a big lead over Bernie, however, was the terrible proposal from Sanders to have felons vote.
The truth is that denying votes to felons is not voter suppression. Proposing giving votes to felons, however, seems to be "Bernie suppression" and he's doing it all himself.
