The Connecticut Republican primary tomorrow has been a difficult race in which to pick sides. Both Tom Foley and John McKinney are first rate men who would make good governors. Both would do a much better job than our current governor Dan Malloy. Today, however, we are endorsing Tom Foley as the better choice in the primary. The reason is a simple one: Foley, unlike McKinney, has run a positive campaign that addresses the relevant issues without resorting to the negative attacks that mark too many contests across America. McKinney, on the other hand, is now running commercials that attack Foley for irrelevant events from many decades ago that show nothing about Foley's ability to be governor. Indeed, these commercials reveal more about McKinney's willingness to defame his opponent in order to try for the prize than they do about Foley in any way.
It is truly time that we had a governor in this state who can help change the poisonous atmosphere in American politics. There's already enough lying and attack ads spewing out of Washington to cover the whole country many times over. We need to select leaders who will reduce the tide of anger and hatred and improve the quality of government. Tom Foley is such a man, and we strongly endorse him in tomorrow's primary.
