It's More Than A Game

Golf is more than a game these days.  It is a symbol.  It always was a bit of a symbol; those who played golf were for the most part on the higher end of the economic ladder.  Membership in a country club was not inexpensive, and even the fees for public courses were not insubstantial.  Playing golf was a symbol of success.  Today, golf has become a symbol of something else.  It is now the perfect symbol of the complete lack of interest by president Obama in doing his job.

Today, Obama made a statement about James Foley, the photo-journalist beheaded by ISIS.  Then, after a few words regarding Foley, Obama went directly to the golf course to play another 18 holes.  Each time there is a crisis, indeed on many, many days, Obama is off to the course for yet another round of golf.  It may turn out that Obama's biggest accomplishment while in office will be reducing his handicap by a few strokes as a result of all the practice he has been getting.

It makes me wonder what it takes for president Obama to get angry.  The economy sputters; he plays golf.  The Russians take Crimea from the Ukraine; Obama plays golf.  In Syria people die by the hundreds of thousands; Obama hits the links.  ISIS takes control of half of Iraq, slaughters tens of thousands of innocent civilians, forces thousands of women to be sex slaves and kidnaps thousands of children to be slaves.  Obama plays another round of golf.  Hamas attacks Israel and Israel fights back.  This one actually annoys Obama because he thinks that Israel is defending itself too well, but it is not enough to get him to stop playing golf (even for a few days.)  The Obamacare website is a disaster that does not work for many months.  Obama just plays more golf.  Obama never gets angry; he just plays golf.

It certainly seems that nothing rises to the level of actually interesting Obama aside from golf.
