Why Tell Now? It's Just More Politics

The nation learned tonight that earlier this summer, American Special Operations forces mounted a major rescue attempt in Syria to liberate the Americans being held prisoner by the terrorist group ISIS.  The mission inflicted serious casualties on ISIS with only one minor injury for the US forces, but it was nevertheless a failure.  The prisoners were not there; the raid was based upon faulty intelligence.

The idea that US forces were operating inside the war zone in Syria is a surprise.  After all, president Obama tells us so often that he wants no American boots on the ground in the Middle East that Michelle has made a needlepoint pillow with that phrase embroidered on it for Obama to keep on the sofa in the Oval Office.  We can have no boots on the ground in Libya.  We can have no boots on the ground in Iraq.  We can have no boots on the ground in Syria.  Except, it seems, now we can.

So why is it that this secret mission is now being disclosed?  According to government sources, the mission had been kept secret to protect the hostages.  James Foley, one of the hostages, is now dead, murdered at the hands of the ISIS thugs.  But what about the other hostages?  Isn't publication of the fact of the raid putting them in needless jeopardy?

The answer is simple:  politics.  Foley gets beheaded and Obama and the Obamacrats want to look like they are doing something about it.  Since there is little to be done directly now, Obama and his people publicize a past effort to free Foley and the other hostages.  Obama's political needs are deemed more important than doing everything possible to keep the hostages safe.  It's disgusting.
