I had to chuckle today when I saw the blaring headlines from Yahoo News that senator Elizabeth Warren was criticizing former congressman Eric Cantor for taking a job with an investment bank. Warren, of course, is a former professor at Harvard Law School who is rumored to have gotten her job by claiming to be part Native American. By hiring Warren, Harvard got to claim that it had a diverse faculty including Native Americans and Warren got a prestigious job. The truth, however, is that the only basis Warren has for the claim that she is Cherokee is that her aunt once told her that she had "high cheekbones like the Indians." So Warren used a totally baseless claim to advance her career. Cantor, however, spent many years in Congress and resigned after he was defeated in the primary a few months back. He did not use any phony credentials to get his job. Cantor certainly was chosen for the position because of his actual experience, something that may confound Warren. Cantor did not have to defraud anyone to be hired in his position.
It seems that the senator has a War on Honesty. Maybe it should be called the "Warren Dishonesty".
