Here are two words that truly and completely scare the Democrats: Betsy DeVos.
It's worth considering the all out assault on DeVos by the senate Democrats. Rex Tillerson may have been denounced as a tool of corporate interests and fossil fuel producers. In the end, though, there was very little push back against him. Jeff Sessions has been denounced (falsely) as a racist. The Democrats in the senate have hardly said word one about him. The nominees for all the big cabinet offices have been the subject of minor attacks by the Democrats. Betsy DeVos, however, who will be Secretary of Education is under assault as I write this from a non-stop Democrat attack on her character, her morals, her honesty and even her very existence. That's right, the woman nominated to head one of the smallest federal departments is a major target of senate Democrats.
How can that be? Why would the Democrats be so opposed to DeVos. The answer to that question is also two words long: teachers' unions. The teachers' unions are perhaps the single biggest supporters of Democrat candidates across the country. DeVos wants to focus the Department of Education on helping the students rather than on helping the teachers. To the unions, that is more dangerous than nuclear war. DeVos supports new charter schools which would not necessarily be unionized. If she gets her way, there could be thousands or tens of thousands of teachers who would no longer be paying union dues. It's a threat to truth, justice and the American way according to the Democrats.
If there was ever a good reason to support DeVos, the opposition from the teachers' unions is it.
