The Slaves As Immigrants

HUD Secretary Ben Carson has been the subject of outrage from the left because he made a speech on Monday in which he described slaves who were brought to America from Africa as "immigrants".  The media/Democrat complex has gone nuts; heads exploded in outrage all across that bubble.  How dare Dr. Carson call slaves from Africa "immigrants"!  One of the more rational responses to the statement came from Leslie Jones of Saturday Night Live who said she was appalled by what that "f__kface" Carson had said.

Let's take a look:  here's a quote.

"It wasn’t always easy for new immigrants.  Certainly it wasn’t easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily, and yet in their own way were immigrants themselves.  There was discrimination and hardship and poverty."

Does this outrage you?  How could someone, particularly an African American say such a thing?  Does this prove -- as the left claims-- that the speaker does not understand the African American experience?

Here's the key.  The quoted statement comes from a speech made by president Obama in December of 2015 to a group of new citizens.  That's right, president Obama called slaves from Africa "immigrants".  When he said it, no one commented.  When Ben Carson says the very same thing, however, all hell breaks lose on the left.  What utter hypocrisy!

UPDATE -- Here's an article listing eleven times when Obama called slaves "immigrants" or compared the two.
