Democrats Expanding the War on Coal

We all have heard of president Obama's War on Coal.  The president has taken actions through the EPA that have made construction of new power plants using coal impossible.  The EPA is also issuing regulations that will force older coal plants to close.  Since power plants are, by far, the biggest users of coal, these moves will destroy the coal mining industry in much of this country.  In addition, since coal is extremely abundant in the USA (we have the world's biggest reserves by far) and since coal is also the least expensive fuel for power plants, Obama's War on Coal will drive up power costs for all Americans.  At the moment, the anger in coal country against Obama and the Obamacrats is major and still growing.  Indeed, this is one of the main reasons why West Virginia has gone from a reliably Democrat state to a strongly Republican state in recent years.

All of this is old news.  But now the Democrats are opening a new front in the War on Coal, and it seems to be a suicidal move.  A Democrat congressman from West Virginia says that the reason why there are not more jobs in coal mining is that the mining companies cannot find men to work in the mines who can pass drug tests.  Get that?  The unemployed miners are at fault for their lack of jobs because they are all drug addicts according to this Democrat.  The statement is not true, but I don't want to argue about the ridiculous claim that the miners are all addicts.  Instead, I want to do a mind experiment.  First, consider how much you have heard about this claim by Congressman Rahall, the West Virginia Democrat congressman in question.  The truth is that Rahall's ridiculous claim has hardly gotten any attention anywhere in the media.  Now imagine that we just flip the facts around a bit.  Imagine that the person making the statement is Congresswoman Capito, a West Virginia Republican who is running for the senate.  Imagine further that Congresswoman Capito said that the people in West Virginia who don't have jobs created that problem for themselves since they are all drug addicts.  Think about that.  Does anyone doubt that there would be non-stop coverage of this "scandal" in the mainstream media?  Imagine further that the highest unemployment rate in West Virginia was among minorities.  Just think about how Capito, the Republican, would be castigated by the media for racist and intolerable remarks were she to say that the unemployed were drug addicts.

But, you see, the statement was made by a Democrat.  That is why no one is covering it.  A Democrat like Rahall can level false and hurtful charges against a class of workers who are suffering because of what Obama and his party have done to them intentionally.  This Democrat has the nerve to blame the victims for disgusting acts that the Democrats themselves have carried out.  No wonder the liberal mainstream media is silent.
