Is president Obama actively trying to lose the support of American veterans? It sure seems that way. According to the latest poll from USA Today/Pew, veterans hold the view by 70% to 16% that the swap of five terrorist leaders for Bowe Bergdahl was a mistake by Obama. Then there is the widespread anger among veterans regarding the failure of the VA to deal in a timely fashion with veterans requiring medical treatment. One poll found that among veterans 78% blame the administration for not correcting the problem.
These may not be issues that will make much difference in future elections. After all, Obama is not running again, and it is hard to blame congressional Democrats for a swap with the Taliban when Obama did not even tell them about it in advance. Nevertheless, it is rare to see this sort of unanimity on a political question among a group as disparate as veterans.
