It Really Was a Video

Today we learned that the claim by president Obama that Sgt. Bergdahl was in very ill health was based entirely on a 90 second video that was shot in December of 2013.  The government got a copy of that video in January of this year.  So let's put that into the proper context.  Five months ago, the government got a short video that was already a month old.  That video has not been made public, but those who have seen it are divided as to whether or not it shows that Bergdahl is in poor health.  president Obama waited for five months after getting the video before responding to this supposed "urgent" health risk for Bergdahl before agreeing to the swap of Bergdahl for five leaders of the Taliban terrorists.  And now it has taken six days since the swap for the White House to say that Bergdahl's ill health was the cause for the hasty conclusion to the trade.  In short, nothing the White House is now saying makes sense.

Can it really be that Obama is going to tell us again how a video is responsible for all this when both the White House and the American people know this is not true?  And if it were true, how could Obama justify waiting for five months to complete the deal, five months during which Bergdahl was supposedly dying.  What will we learn next?  It would not surprise me to hear that since Bergdahl had been in combat, he was treated as a combat veteran, so his illness was first put on a secret list where it sat waiting a government response for five months.  Only ten days ago was it placed on an active list for which Obama needed to get action within two weeks.  Hey, Obama does that to all the other veterans, so why not Bergdahl?

And then there's more:  we learned tonight that intelligence reports made for the US government relate that a few years back Bowe Bergdahl converted to Islam, declared himself a mujahadid (a "warrior for Islam"), and was seen using a loaded assault weapon together with the Taliban who were supposedly his captors.  Now this all may be the result of his captivity, but it is troubling nevertheless.  No matter how this story plays out, however, two things are certain:  Obama had more than enough information to know that Bergdahl should not have been celebrated in a Rose Garden ceremony and Susan Rice should not have told another of her famous Sunday morning lies when said Bergdahl served his country with honor and distinction.

One last note:  a poll just taken reveals that more than three quarters of the American people believe that the Bergdahl deal will put American troops and citizens at greater risk of being taken captives by terrorists.  That is unanimity that one rarely sees in polling.
