When Eric Cantor lost his primary fight ten days ago, the mainstream media went crazy. Cantor was drummed out of Congress by ultra conservatives we were told. This was an earthquake, we were told. There would be a bloodbath resulting from the internal fight among House Republicans to replace Cantor. The whole GOP conference in the House could be melting down, we were told.
Today, the House Republicans selected representative Kevin McCarthy as the new Majority Leader. The vote was calm. There was only one person who ran against McCarthy and he had no chance to win. The big difference between Cantor and McCarthy is personality rather than policy we are told. McCarthy, it seems, is less formal and generally of a sunnier disposition.
They must be so disappointed at MSNBC and CNN. The folks at the networks must be trying to figure out what they can say about all this. There will be nothing left to discuss on Sunday. Oh the humanity!
