This Sums It All Up Well

I just read an article about the request made by House Speaker John Boehner that the president send troops to the Mexican border to help stop the avalanche of illegal immigrants entering the USA.  In the last month, the number of children coming from three countries (El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua) has eclipsed the total number coming from the rest of the world last year.  There is a debate in Washington whether the reason for the huge numbers of children crossing the border is the result of (1) the policies of the Obama administration that indicated to the families of these children that they would be allowed to stay in the USA and given government assistance, or (2) the crime and economic problems rampant in Central America.  The White House has weighed in on the debate and denied that the Obama policies had anything to do with the surge in illegal aliens.  So far, however, Obama has not proposed any remedy to the problem.  Indeed, Obama has not come forward with a plan how to deal with these illegals in any way.

Speaker Boehner is now asking that the military deploy troops to beef up the border security and to return the illegals across the border as soon as they reach the USA.  In this way, word will get back quickly to Central America that there is no easy access to the USA and the torrent of immigrants will be reduced to a trickle.  At least, that is the theory.  In addition, the illegals who have arrived here in the last month would be quickly processed and sent back to their countries of origin.

This may be a good solution to the problem, or it may be a terrible solution to the problem.  It is, at least, a proposal how to move forward.  Other Republican leaders have put forth other solutions.  Again, these can be debated.

President Obama's response was summed up well by the AP in the article I read.  According to the AP, "The White House had no response to the Boehner proposal."  I know that the AP did not mean for this to be a full summary of the Obama position on immigration, but it truly sums up the president's response to this crisis to date.  There is a reason why two thirds of Americans disapprove of Obama's handling of the issue of immigration according to the latest Gallup poll.  Obama has proven himself incompetent and incapable of decision when it comes to immigration.  Of course, why would we expect anything more from Obama on immigration than we get on the economy, jobs, foreign policy or government spending?  Obama is incompetent and incapable of making a decision on just about everything.
