There are two extremely important developments regarding the terrorist attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. First, we learned tonight that there were aircraft on alert in Germany that could have gotten to Benghazi by four hours after the eight hour attack commenced either to bring reinforcements to help defend the American installations in Benghazi or to evacuate the American diplomatic personnel. Remember, half of those who died were killed only in the last hour of the attack. That means that those people could have been saved had president Obama given the go ahead for action to provide help or evacuation. Put another way, Obama may now tell us how the USA leaves no one behind when it comes to swapping terrorist leaders for Bowe Bergdahl, but that does not apply to trying to send help to Americans under attack from terrorists.
Second, we also learned that it was Hillary Clinton who was the first public source of the lie that it was a youtube video that caused the attack in Benghazi rather than a terrorist attack. Here is how Catherine Herridge, the extremely competent correspondent for FNC puts it:
Hillary Clinton’s newly released memoir leaves little doubt she was the first member of the Obama administration to publicly link an anti-Islam video to the 2012 Benghazi terror attack – though she does not explain what intelligence she relied on to make the faulty connection.
The former secretary of State and potential Democratic presidential candidate discussed the Benghazi attack in her memoir “Hard Choices.” The 33-page Benghazi chapter sheds some light on events, but it leaves plenty of inconvenient details out.
According to the chronology she offers, Clinton issued the statement linking Benghazi to the video before she called President Obama on the night of the attack to provide an update, suggesting she was the originator of the flawed explanation.
The State Department press release, issued in her name, on Sept. 11, 2012 at 10:07 p.m., tied the death of Foreign Service officer Sean Smith to the video. Later that evening, a mortar strike killed former Navy SEALs Ty Woods and Glen Doherty, permanently maimed another CIA contractor and severely injured diplomatic security agent David Ubben – all of whom were defending the CIA annex. U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens also died in the Benghazi assault.
Meanwhile, we also heard tonight further confirmation that the people on the ground in Benghazi knew within the first hours of the attack just who it was that carrying out the military move. The CIA in Benghazi was monitoring State Department cell phones which were taken by the attackers near the beginning of the fighting as the attackers reported back to the leaders of Ansar al Sharia (the al Qaeda unit in Libya) on the progress of the attack. This too is new information.
There is no way that anyone in Washington was unaware that this had been an organized assault by terrorists by the end of September 11th. It was an inexcusable lie for Obama, Clinton and others to keep repeating the phony story about the youtube video just to help Obama's re-election prospects.
