Namaste Afghanistan!

According to the New York Post today, president Obama is planning to release two terrorist detainees at Guantanamo because they "took up yoga."  Really.  I am not joking.  The reason for the release, according to the Post, is that they "took up yoga."

One of the terrorists involved is Ghaleb Nasser al Bihani.  According to the Post, he was

classified as an “indefinite detainee” in 2010 because of the danger he posed to the US. The Yemeni national was captured in 2001 fighting in Afghanistan. The military said he was a troublemaker while in custody, even inciting riots. He was uncooperative in interviews, showing “ill intentions toward the US.” One of his brothers in Yemen is a leader in al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the terror group’s most lethal branch.

But now, he has taken up yoga.  As a result, the Periodic Review Board (which is Obama's mechanism for emptying Gitmo) has deemed him approved for release.

During the second term of George Bush, the Democrats including then senator Obama made Gitmo a big political issue.  They told us all that Gitmo was a major recruiting tool for al Qaeda and had to be closed immediately.  When Obama won in 2008, one of his first acts was to sign an executive order requiring the closing of Gitmo by the end of 2009.  Of course, Obama was unable to close the camp and the detainees stayed.  Five years later, there is not a single bit of evidence that the continued existence of Gitmo has had any effect on recruiting by the terrorists.  Indeed, all that Gitmo has done is to keep hundreds of dangerous terrorists off the streets of Baghdad and Kabul and away from American and other terror targets.  Nevertheless, the facts seem not to matter one whit to Obama; he is still intent on closing Guantanamo.  That is the only conclusion one can draw from a determination to clear for release a dangerous troublemaker who even incited riots in Gitmo during his stay because he "took up yoga."

I know that Obama wants to leave a legacy of fulfillment of his campaign promises, or at least a few of them.  It is reprehensible, however, for Obama to free terrorists to resume their killing of Americans and innocent civilians on a bogus basis just so that he can carry out such a promise.

How many American lives is Obama prepared to sacrifice so that he can feel good about himself?
