Is Hillary Too Rich? Are you Kidding?

The latest big discussion on many liberal blogs and media outlets is not the collapse of Iraq, not the sad state of the American economy, not the failure of Obamacare, not the collapse of care for veterans with a cover up to boot, and not the IRS having a convenient hard drive crash on the computers of six different employees who just happened to be among the few whose emails were requested by Congress.  No, the topic of the moment is whether or not Hillary Clinton is "too rich" to get elected president in 2016.  Really, this is what they are discussing.

It is hilarious that the left is so busy having this "conversation".  We never seem to have gotten around to the national conversation on race that they keep telling us we need to have.  We also have not gotten to the national conversation on immigration that the left wants.  Indeed, they just don't seem to want to "talk" about those subjects.  Instead, the topic of the moment is Hillary's wealth.

Some rather idiotic people are actually writing that Hillary is not all that wealthy.  I guess $120 million dollars just doesn't go as far as it used to.  Hillary herself says that all that income doesn't matter because she and Bill pay taxes at the ordinary income rate on nearly all of it.  Gee, that means that the two of them were only left with something like eighty million dollars after taxes.  Hillary thinks that doesn't matter?  I can just hear her cackling "What difference does it make?"

The real truth is that Hillary's wealth itself does not matter.  The fact that she got a big part of that wealth as payments by fat cats across America is what actually matters.  The fact that Bill Clinton is the first former president to cash in by taking payments from foreign governments (like Dubai) for "advice" is what is shocking.  The fact that Hillary got 14 million dollars for a ghost written book from Simon and Shuster and the book could not even stay in the top 10 best sellers for a week after its launch is what is shocking.  The real question is this:  what are all these wealthy people actually getting for the tens of millions of dollars they are paying to the Clintons?  Think about it.  Mitt Romney was castigated by Bill Clinton, among others, for being heartless in the accumulation of wealth.  Romney, of course, financed new business ventures that ended up providing jobs to tens of thousands of Americans (but he was heartless).  The Clintons, however, just take millions upon millions of dollars from wealthy folks just for showing up and talking.  No one gets a jobs from that effort.  No middle class family makes a living from that effort.  All that happens is that the Clintons blather and the super-rich get some really good connections at the White House if Hillary gets in as president.

So, Hillary is not too rich.  It's not how much money she has; it's how she got that money that matters.
