House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia lost his primary election in Virginia today. The winner was a local economics professor who ran with Tea Party backing. The truth, however, is that Cantor lost this election; his opponent did not "win". Cantor's positions on amnesty for illegal aliens ran counter to the sentiment in his district. My guess is that these results also guarantee that there will be no action before the election on any immigration bill by the House.
Cantor has served ably and honorably for many terms. He deserves the nation's thanks for his work on out behalf. Clearly, however, he was out of sync with his district and it was time for him to go.
