Angry Birdbrains

According to the New York Times, many congressional Democrats are angry at the White House for its failed efforts to "handle the message" of the Bergdahl swap for the terrorist leaders of the Taliban as well as the new environmental regulations that effectively strangle the use of coal for generating electric power.  The response from "sources" in the White House is, according to the Times, that congressional Democrats are too "needy".  Amazing!

Think about it.  Here are just a few of the issues that arise out of the Bergdahl/terrorist swap:
1.  Should America release high ranking leaders of the Taliban who are wanted by the UN for war crimes in any prisoner swap?
2.  Should the likely desertion of the American involved alter the calculus used to determine whether or not the exchange should have been made?
3.  Why did the president fail to give Congress thirty days notice of the transfer of prisoners out of Guantanamo as required by law?
4.  Why would Susan Rice be sent to the Sunday shows to misstate the facts regarding Bergdahl and the swap?

There are many more issues, but the four above are all worthy of congressional consideration.

On the EPA regulations, there are also numerous questions that need to be considered.  Is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions worth significantly raising the cost of electric power across America?  Should the EPA take steps that Congress itself rejected with regard to cap and trade?  Does the EPA have the power to issue regulations of this sort?  Again, there are many more.

Nevertheless, what is it that the Democrats are squabbling about?  They are fighting about the presentation of the stories.  They do not seem to care about the impact on America.  They do not seem to care about what is and what is not constitutional.  They do not seem to care about what will be a good policy in the long run for the country.  No, they are fighting about the short term political impact of these policies and how that impact is affected by the way the matters are presented.

If they ever make a game to play on smartphones about the Democrats, I suggest that they call it "Angry Birdbrains".
