Some Things Never Change

The Egyptian government announced that it has captured 15 men who crossed into Egypt through tunnels from Gaza; those arrested were members of ISIS who were on their way to Cairo to set up a terrorist cell to fight the Egyptian government.  It is bad enough to think that the terrorists are moving into the most populous Arab country, but that is not why I am writing about it.  What caught my attention was the response by the Hamas led rulers of Gaza to the arrests.  The Hamas spokesman in Gaza said that the story was false.  He then proceeded to not only deny that the terrorist cell had come from Gaza, he also said that there were no tunnels that went under the border between Egypt and Gaza.

Let's take a moment out to look at that claim.  The existence of the smuggling tunnels into Gaza has been known for many years.  There have even been tours of some of the tunnels on American television.  The statement by Hamas is just plain ridiculous.  It is the equivalent of the USA catching terrorists swimming across the Rio Grande into Texas from Mexico and the Mexican authorities not only saying that it did not happen but also announcing that there is no water in the Rio Grande so the terrorists could not have been swimming across.

I wonder how one says in Arabic:  "Who you gonna believe; me or your lying eyes?"

Nothing Hamas says is honest.  Some things never change.
