The Semi-Official New York Times

For many decades, the New York Times always refered to the main newspaper in Cairo, Egypt as the "semi-official Al Ahram", a description that made clear that the stories in Al Ahram came from or were approved by the government.  Today, the tables are turned; we now must all start calling the Times, the "semi-official New York Times".  For the longest time, the Times has clearly been the media spokesman for president Obama and his administration.  Today, however, the Times coverage made clear that it was prepared to say anything it was told in support of Obama.  For the second day in a row, the main story on the front page of the Times is an attempt to explain and support Obama's position in the Bowe Bergdahl swap for five terrorist leaders of the Taliban.  Today, the Times tells us that Obama had no choice but to act because Sgt. Bergdahl's health was quickly deteriorating.  You get that right?  The Bergdahl trade was not a mistake made by idiots in Washington; no, it was a mission of mercy to save a dying American man.  Of course, the problem with that is the complete lack of truth in that story.  Just look at the video of the prisoner swap.  Bergdahl is not ill.  Bergdahl is not suffering from malnutrition.  Bergdahl exhibited no physical ailments.  When Bergdahl reached the US hospital in Germany, he was not described as being in critical condition.  In other words, the guy was thin (but not too thin) and seems in good health.  But it goes further:  the Times tells us Obama had to act due to Bergdahl's health, but it provides no credible information that would indicate that Bergdahl was in any way in ill health.  I scoured the Times article looking for a quote from Susan Rice in which she tells us that Obama was incited to act as a result of a youtube video of Sgt. Bergdahl in which he looked pale, but the Times did not even bother with that.  Nope, what we got was pure propaganda from Obama; we get told Bergdahl was in poor health even though that was untrue and even though Obama had no reason to believe that Bergdahl was in poor health.

It truly is the "semi-official New York Times".
