In the last nine hours, Hamas launched over 50 missile attacks on Israel from Gaza. That's right, the three day cease fire expired and the idiots at Hamas decided to renew their missile attacks within two minutes of the end of that agreement. The consequences were predictable. Israel reopened its bomb shelters and took civil defense measures. None of the rockets that were heading towards populated areas got past the Iron Dome system. Two Israelis were injured when missiles exploded near where they were. By three hours after the start of the missile barrage, Israeli jets were once again in the air pounding Hamas targets in Gaza. Israeli tanks and artillery near Gaza has also opened up on terrorist sites in Gaza. Tens of thousands of Gaza residents who live near the border with Israel have fled the homes to which they had just returned.
All of this is the result of Hamas restarting the missile launches. That was an incredibly stupid move on the part of Hamas. So far, nearly a month of fighting has lost Hamas (1) two thirds of its missiles (over 3000 fired at Israel and more than that destroyed by the Israelis), (2) most or all of its extensive tunnel network that had cost hundreds of millions of dollars and taken many years to build, and (3) the lives of about 1000 of its fighters. From Hamas' perspective, its gains from the fighting have been (1) some good press, (2) about 50 Israeli soldiers killed and (3) essentially no damage to Israel from the missiles aside from shrapnel damage in sparsely settled areas. The main Hamas goals of killing Israeli civilians so as to cause terror and the ending of the arms blockade of Gaza were not even partially met. In other words, Hamas lost this war, and it lost badly. At this point, the continuing missile barrages only have the effect of reducing the remaining Hamas missile stockpile.
That brings us to casualties. One thing that the resumption of fighting assures is that there will be more "civilian" death in Gaza. There is no way that the Israelis can fire back at those launching missiles without civilians dying. After all, Hamas is still firing from mosques, schools, hospitals and residential buildings. It is a guarantee that return fire will cause deaths. So Hamas has opted to have more civilian deaths in Gaza even though it knows that its missiles are very unlikely to cause real damage in Israel. Boiled down to its essence, the Hamas strategy is to arrange for its own civilians to die as a weapon against Israel.
This is just another example of the moral depravity of the Islamic terrorist groups. The people of Gaza should rise up and get rid of Hamas.
