The swap with the Taliban that freed an American soldier held captive for five years resulted in freedom for five vicious terrorists from Guantanamo. It is a swap that has both positive and negative aspects. Obviously, the chief positive is that our soldier is now free and can return home. The chief negative is that the terrorists now understand that by capturing Americans, they can get their imprisoned comrades freed. Remember "America does not negotiate with terrorists"? That no longer holds.
It is a tough choice whether or not the positives outweigh the negatives. Let's hope that we do not now see a rash of captured soldiers held to swap for other terrorists now in prison.
