The Need For Clarity

It hit me today just how much useless garbage gets pushed out to the public through the media.  For example, it's not that I don't want to find out what happened to that Malaysian airliner that disappeared fifteen months ago or so, but I don't need to see a report from Reunion Island in which the reporter pulls up all manner of garbage and debris from the beach where a part of a plane (maybe THE plane) was located.  Similarly, I wanted to know about the death of the motorist shot during a traffic stop, but I did not need to see the video replayed every time I put on the TV for the next week.  I also see no need to hear a debate about whether or not vice president Biden will get into the presidential race for 2016; either he will or he won't and no amount of pundit palaver with change that.

This morning, there were a series of discussions about what to expect from the GOP debate this week.  I wrote earlier this week that no one should expect much, so I contributed to the exploration of that topic.  I understand why programs would cover the story.  Nevertheless, I cannot understand why there needs to be an argument from a panel about what will really happen.  Who cares what they think?

I'm starting to sound like a cranky old man.  I better quit before I get there.
