Seattle mayor Ed Murray just ended his bid for re-election. It seems that the mayor has now been sued for what was allegedly sexually molesting young men a few decades ago before he was mayor. This is not a new story. I've been reading about it for weeks. Now that there is a lawsuit, however, Murray has finally thrown in the towel on his re-election campaign.
This leads to two rather big questions. Let's put it this way: it seems that there most likely is something to the allegations or Murray would have not withdrawn from the race. So why did it take all this time for Murray to stop running for re-election? He had to know that this wasn't going away and that it would doom his bid. More important, why hasn't Murray resigned? He allegedly molested three or more boys. How can that guy stay on as mayor? How can he possibly focus on his job?
Of course, the answer is that Murray is a Democrat. The media won't hound him from office unless the public really cries out in outrage. If he were a Republican, it would be a national story. Every other Republican in the land would be asked to denounce Murray. Since he's a Democrat he expects just to fade away slowly.
