There's a special election next week to fill the Montana House seat left vacant when Secretary Zinke joined President Trump's cabinet. There hasn't been much coverage of this race, but today I happened upon a number of articles about it. One in particular caught my eye. To put it mildly, the article was dishonest. It appeared on Yahoo News (which is always a cesspool of leftwing news.) Even for Yahoo, however, this one was way off, almost to the point of unintentional comedy.
The reporter Holly Bailey describes the Montana race as a "crucial first test" for Republicans wondering how President Trump will affect local elections. Maybe Bailey has been sleeping for the last four months. First we had that special election for the House in the sixth district of Kansas. the Republican won. Then we had the special election for the third district of Georgia. Despite a full court press by the national Democrat party which included spending over eight million dollars on the Democrat candidate, no one got a majority, so there will be a runoff in June. The latest polls show the Republican with a comfortable lead there. There have also been around 15 other special elections across America since the inauguration. Maybe someone should tell Holly Bailey about these races. Clearly, the Montana race is not a "crucial first test" of anything. It's more like the eighteenth race since Trump took office.
Why does the media feel that it has to use phony hype to gin up interest in a congressional race in Montana? We can all understand that this is just another in a long list of special elections. It has no special predictive value. You can be sure that if the GOP candidate wins, we will never hear about it from yahoo News. You can also be sure that if the Democrat wins, we will have at least a week's worth of articles from the same source detailing how this is the beginning of the end for President Trump. It will all be nothing but media BS.
