The Washington Post is perplexed. The American public disapproves of president Obama's handling of foreign policy by a wide margin; in fact only 41% of Americans approve of Obama on that score. These are the results of the latest poll taken for the WaPo itself. But how can that be, is the question that confounds the WaPo. After all, Obama's policies are so popular. He ended the Iraq war and is ending Afghanistan. He negotiated a deal with Iran. He kept us out of other conflicts. Americans just have to approve Obama's actions, at least in the eyes of the liberal editors at the WaPo.
The truth is that Obama has been just terrible at foreign policy, not so-so or even poor, but TERRIBLE!!!!! Americans know that instinctively. They also know that they cannot trust Obama. Just look at another finding of this latest poll, this time about the terrorist attack on Benghazi. Obama and his party tell us that the investigations into Benghazi are just partisan witch hunts, exercises in politics that ought to be of no concern to the average American. According to those average Americans who were questioned in the WaPo poll, however, 58% believe that Obama and his administration lied about the attack and then tried to cover up the lies. Only 32% believe that Obama and the Obamacrats are telling the truth about the Benghazi attack. This is a massive majority that thinks Obama is lying. No matter what one says, it is not likely that a majority of Americans are going to approve of a policy that includes the president lying to them.
On top of all of this, we have the results of Obama's policies. Nearly 200,000 are dead in Syria. Crimea is now part of Russia. Ukraine is almost in civil war. Afghanistan is no more secure today than it was when Obama decided it was the place to concentrate our efforts. Israel and the Palestinians are no closer to peace. Iraq is further from peace and more likely to return to being a haven for terrorists. Al Qaeda is getting stronger, not weaker despite all the palaver from Obama. Our ties with Europe have been weakened. China is flexing its muscles and threatening American interests in Asia. In short, there is no good news anywhere. Even our relations with Canada have been strained due to the Keystone pipeline fiasco.
