A Depressing Day

I opened my email in box this morning to see that I had gotten a message from Chris McDaniels campaign.  If you don't remember, this is the guy who lost the run off primary in Mississippi to Thad Cochran.  The email announced that McDaniels is now going to challenge the results of that primary because Cochran used "leftist tactics" to win with the votes of "illegal Democrats".  How depressing!  Cochran won, and it was not that close.  McDaniels will never be able to prove that there were 100 illegal votes, let alone the 2000 or so he will need to prove to affect the result.  I know that, and I suspect that he and his campaign know that.  In other words, what we are seeing is a sore loser trying to hit back at the guy who beat him in a nasty campaign.  Of course, the main reason that Cochran won is because his campaign sent people to film Cochran's wife in the nursing home where she has spent the last ten years.  That got used in a campaign of innuendo against Cochran for being seen with one of his female aides too often.  So McDaniels loses the election through some really disgusting campaign tactics, and now he is trying to hurt the winner.  Of course, we are still talking about Mississippi, so it remains highly likely that Cochran will win no matter what this loser does.  Nevertheless, it is really depressing to see someone do something so foolish.

On another note, it is not just a depressing day for me.  My guess is that they are really upset over at Ready For Hillary, the supposedly independent group that is pushing for a Hillary presidential run.  It seems that the recent disaster of the Hillary book tour and poverty announcement have taken their toll.  There were three sets of state polls matching Hillary against possible Republican opponents for 2016 that were released today.  Senator Paul of Kentucky does best against Hillary.  He beats her in Colorado, ties in Iowa and loses in New Hampshire.  More important, however, is that Hillary who used to be way ahead in all these polls now gets results in the low to mid 40s no matter who the opponent is.  Those are not good numbers for Ms. Inevitability.  Everyone already knows Mrs. Clinton.  If she only gets 45% or less against the pack of Republicans, it means she can easily be beaten.  Indeed, these are the kind of numbers that are likely to draw new blood into the race on the Democrat side.
