The Trend Continues

A week ago, I wrote about the last two months of results in the generic congressional polls and the steady move away from the Democrats and towards the Republicans.  The Democrats were ahead, but the margin was collapsing.  Here is the key sentence outlining those results:  "The margin for the Democrats starting two month ago, however, have been 4, 4, 3, 4, 2, 2, 3, and 1 percent."  This afternoon, we got this week's results.  In the latest poll, the two parties are tied.

Once again, it is important to remember that one week's results do not translate into any particular outcome.  We do know that in 2010 when the GOP picked up 63 seats from the Democrats, the last of these polls showed the Democrats with a 1% lead.  If one could extrapolate from that result to the current numbers, it would indicate a major Republican victory if the election were held today.

We are down to three and a half months before the election.  We have a poor economy.  We have scandals everywhere imaginable in Washington.  Our borders are in chaos and president Obama is doing nothing about it.  Overseas, American foreign policy is in shambles, except for a few places where things are even worse.  It turns out that the only thing president Obama is good at is fund raising.  It really is hard to imagine how this trend towards the Republicans can be reversed.  It is certainly something that could happen, but I sure don't see it.
