No Need for the USA to Support Terrorists

In the last month, the terror group Hamas has kidnapped and then killed three Israeli teens, attempted on multiple occasions to launch terror attacks inside Israel, and fired hundreds of rockets from Gaza at civilian targets in Israel.  For those who do not accept Hamas responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of the three Israeli children because of a claim of insufficient evidence, we do know that the Hamas leadership has celebrated the murder of the Israeli children and announced that all Israelis are proper targets for death.  In other words, it has been a busy month for terrorist activities.

It has also been a busy period for Hamas as a governmental partner in the Palestinian Authority.  Not all that long ago, Hamas formed a partnership with Fattah, the party of Palestinian president Abbas to rule in the West Bank.  Since that time, we have seen riots and fighting in the West Bank to go along with the various terrorist acts undertaken by Hamas.

American law is quite clear; it bars the USA from sending foreign aid to any country ruled by or cooperating with terror groups.  Since Hamas is on the official list of terror groups issued by the State Department, the law should have resulted in the cutoff of all aid from the USA to the Palestinian Authority.  President Obama, however, has ignored that law and continued to send aid to the PA.  While Obama himself has never addressed this situation (no surprise there), the government spokesman has said that the individual ministers in the government were more technocrats than terrorists, so the USA was adopting a wait and see attitude.  A better description would have been a "wait and pay" attitude.  Hamas is a coalition partner in the government of the PA, but Obama is waiting to see if Hamas is really a terrorist group.  Can you say idiotic?

Right now, there is a move in Congress to force the hand of the Obama administration.  There is a pending bill to cut off all aid to the PA while Hamas remains part of the governing coalition.  According to news reports, the bill has majority support in the Senate, but Democrat leader Harry Reid is preventing a vote from being taken.  Reid does not want Obama to be embarrassed by having the Senate vote to cut off aid.  Understand what that means!  Reid is perfectly happy to send hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorists just so long as he can avoid a possible embarrassment for Obama.  Will Hamas use some of those funds to finance an attack against America?  That could easily happen.  Reid and Obama don't care, however; they just want not to be embarrassed.

I do not usually call for people to write their senators and congressmen, but today I make an exception.  Take the time right now to call your senator and tell him or her to push for a vote on this measure to cut off funding.  Don't let Obama's and Reid's political games force the USA to keep sending money to fund terror attacks.
