Someone Should Tell the White House It's Not SNL

Today, Russian separatists under the control of Moscow or, even worse, Russian army units shot down a Malaysian Airlines civilian plane and killed nearly 300 innocent people (including 24 Americans).  Not long after that, Israeli ground troops entered the Gaza Strip and the land war began there.  In other words, it was a really bad day around the globe and there were some extremely important developments that demand consideration of the US government.  So ask yourself, what was president Obama's response to these events?  The answer:  Obama went to New York City and then to the Hamptons to attend two big fund raisers for the Democrats.  I am not kidding.  There are two major foreign policy matters, some would call them crises, that cry out for presidential attention, and Obama goes off to raise money for his political party.  Someone needs to tell Obama that this is not Saturday Night Live so doing goofy things is not appropriate.

When the Benghazi consulate was attacked and four Americans were killed during the eight hour onslaught, Obama did not stay to pay attention to the response because he was getting ready to go to Las Vegas for a fund raiser.  That seems to have set a pattern.  No matter what happens, Obama goes to a fund raiser.

It is worth noting that after five and a half years in office, Obama has attended more fund raisers than any other president in history.  No president who held the office for eight years even came close to the number of fundraisers Obama already has under his belt.  But raising money for political allies is not an adequate reason for avoiding actually doing the job of president.

I got a kick tonight when the White House spokesman told the media that Obama took time before the fund raiser in Manhattan to speak to Secretary of State John Kerry on the phone for an update.  That is supposed to be sufficient?  Really?  In what universe?

It is time for Obama to at least try to do his job.  He clearly has lost interest in trying to do anything with regard to the economy, fixing Obamacare, or reaching some agreement on immigration.  But now we are talking about events that are life and death for Americans and many others around the world.  Obama cannot simply vote present on those; he has to actually do something.  Someone has to tell this guy to wake up and pay attention.
