Unfruitful Impeachment

I never fail to be amazed by Washington and the dishonesty of some of the folks there.  The latest example comes with yesterday's statements by high administration sources that the Republicans are planning to impeach president Obama.  It was predictable nonsense from the prime purveyors of that stuff in DC.  Oh sure, there are some Republicans like Sarah Palin who talk about impeachment.  There are even a few House members who talk about it.  The truth, however, is that there is no move at all towards impeachment.  Everyone knows that it would be a futile and self-defeating move.  The Democrats control a majority of the Senate.  Does anyone actually believe that those Democrat senators would vote to oust Obama even though he is violating the Constitution?  Of course not.  So impeachment would just be more political theater, the very last thing that the country needs right now.

So why would the Obama administration stir up impeachment talk?  It is the usual reason for nearly everything that Obama does:  fundraising.  Within a few hours of the phony news hitting the wires that the Republicans were planning to impeach the president, the fund raising appeals went out to the Democrat base calling upon the party faithful to contribute in order to counteract that imaginary attempt.  Dupont used to have the slogan "better living through chemistry".  Obama uses the slogan "better fund-raising through lying."

Right now, there are so many important issues facing the country that one would think the White House would focus on at least some of them.  The economy is limping along and needs help.  America's position in the world has deteriorated and is getting worse.  The Russians are massing once more on the borders of Ukraine.  Israel and Hamas are at war.  Iraq is crumbling and ISIS is establishing a terrorist caliphate.  China is threatening Taiwan and Japan.  American highways are in bad shape and the funding mechanism for federal dollars needs fixing.  Our borders are non-existent. Unnecessary regulations are strangling new businesses.  Even race relations have deteriorated.  The list goes on and on.  Can't Obama take at least part of his day away from fund raising and political campaigning to do his job?
