A federal judge order the IRS to provide all sorts of information under oath about the "missing" Lois Lerner emails. That is a good start, but I wonder why the next step has not been taken.
We all know that when an email is sent, there is a copy on at least the computer of the sender and the person receiving the message. There was also a series of copies for Lerner's emails on various government servers, but supposedly, these are gone. Even so, all is not lost. Indeed, it seems like the next steps are obvious.
1. The IRS should still have Lerner's computer that she used before she left. (If not, then we know someone has destroyed evidence.) That computer will have Lerner's list of contacts.
2. Lerner's contacts list should be reviewed and all people who are either federal employees or employees of a political organization should be identified. Let's call them the Key Contacts.
3. The Key Contacts who are federal employees should be ordered to retrieve and turn over all emails to or from Lois Lerner. This will not get every last email, but it should be good enough to get something like 95% or better of those that were lost.
4. If there are Key Contacts who work(ed) at the DNC or the Obama campaign or the like, there should be subpoenas issued for those people to turn over all email to and from Lerner as well.
This sounds like a big process, but with computers being used, it really ought not be too time consuming. The only part that might take time would be identifying those in the Key Contacts. All those with an email address ending with ".gov" would obviously fall into the group. Only the others would have to be reviewed.
