Remember all those jokes that began "Did you hear the one about......"? Today, it is no longer jokes; it is now stories that the media tries to suppress.
Here's a good example: are you aware that Harry Reid the leader of the Democrats in the Senate is blocking any votes on measures to restrict gun ownership. Quick, ask yourself which party it is that wants to limit gun ownership in America. If you said the Democrats, you are correct. Gun control legislation in various forms is a principal goal of the Democrats. So why is the leader of the Democrats in a senate that is controlled by Democrats blocking votes on bills that favor the party's position? The answer is simple: politics. Reid wants to make sure that Democrats from states that favor gun rights will not have to vote to restrict those rights in the period ahead of election day. It is not that the Democrats no longer favor gun control; it is rather that the Democrats don't want the public to know that they favor gun control legislation.
Here is another example that got a bit more coverage: Are you aware that the Obama administration is refusing to allow access to the army bases where the wave of illegal children immigrants is beign housed. The press is barred by the government. Ministers and priests from area churches have been barred from entry. Outside medical personnel offering assistance with the treatment of those kids with diseases have been refused entry. And here's the best one: members of Congress and the Senate were refused entry. These same congressmen and senators have been told that when they are granted entry, they cannot bring phones, cameras or other electronic equipment into the bases. Do you realize just how extraordinary this is? The overwhelming bulk of these kids are Catholic, so you would think that the government would allow priests to come to minister to these children who are alone in a strange land. Nope. You see, the priests might tell others about how these kids are being treated, about their various medical conditions, and about where they are being sent. We know that there are many serious medical problems with which the kids are suffering, so you would think that the Obamacrats would accept volunteer help from doctors and nurses in the area who might reduce the suffering of these kids. Nope. Once again, the doctors and nurses might give out details about what is happening. Congress has the obligation to oversee all the operations of the federal government. Without a doubt, you would think that even the Obamacrats would let the people's representatives in to see these bases. NOPE!!!!! In what can only be called the most braze slap by the executive at the Congress of my lifetime, the Congressmen and Senators are being kept out. The Obamacrats are suppressing this story and the media is going along with this.
Watch the news today. Look for the story about how Obama has gone to Texas to raise funds for the Democrats but refused to even bother himself to go to see conditions in these bases where the kids are being kept. Wait for the reporter to tell you that Obama's refusal to visit the camps is so that he and his cronies can keep the actual truth about these kids from getting to the American people. You see, there is no way that the president could visit one of these bases without there being full media coverage of the event. If the White House tried to prevent coverage of such a visit by Obama, even the brain dead mainstream media would be incensed. That is why there is no visit.
Then there is the media coverage about missing stories rather than actual ones. My favorite today is a piece on Yahoo News which says that Israel's big advantage in the current confrontation with Hamas is the lack of interest around the world in these events. The article complains that with this fight, there are no big waves of condemnation for the Israelis coming from the world's governments. Indeed, here's how the article puts it: "so long as [Hamas] continues to fire rockets into Israeli civilian centers, the Israeli counterattack, which comes with a qualitative military edge, will seem warranted. For the time being, everyone else has lost the interest, energy, or willingness to do anything." Notice the point of view being expressed? It is not that Israeli retaliation for continual rocket fire by Hamas at Israeli civilians IS warranted; it only SEEMS warranted because the rest of the world has lost interest. Will there be any stories written about such cheerleading for Hamas in the liberal press? Nope. When 200,000 Syrians were killed over the last few years in the fighting, the liberal media mostly ignored the situation. (They wouldn't want Americans to be concerned about the carnage, now, would they?) When ISIS slaughtered hundreds of Iraqi Christians over the last few weeks and then began destroying religious sites in the Iraqi territory that they control, the media again mostly ignored the story. (Ditto) These stories are just not "meant" to be covered.
Some day, the historians will point out the laziness and dishonesty of the media of our day. Let's hope they don't blame it for some disaster that could otherwise have been avoided.
