The Drudge Report has a big headline at the moment announcing that the big wave of illegal aliens who are pouring over the border from Mexico are now being allowed to board commercial flights without ID. All that is being required as identification prior to boarding is the notice to appear for an immigration hearing. This is a paper form. It has no photo on it. It has no verified identity on it. It could easily be reproduced on a copier so that 5 people could use the same form to board at different times. Indeed, once someone had one copy of the form, he or she could use a scanner and a computer to produce as many different forms with different names as wanted.
Let me put this bluntly. If al Qaeda or ISIS or Hezbollah or Hamas or Boko Haram or any of the multiple crazy terrorist organizations around the world wanted to put its people onto flights at any American airport, all they would need would be one copy of this form and a computer with a printer. Have you heard of the "No Fly List"? That is a listing of people with suspected ties to terrorists who are not allowed under any circumstances on planes in the USA. We have that list so that there is no repeat of 9-11. This latest decision by the Obama administration in effect does away with the No Fly List. And this is not an issue about the children coming across the border. It deals with ADULTS. It deals with people who come from every country (like Yemen or Somalia or Syria or even Afghanistan). It is just insane!
Last time I flew, I was checked, rechecked and searched before I got on a plane. Three different stations checked my photo ID on my passport. But why bother? If anyone with a computer and printer can get on any commercial flight, why should the rest of us go through all the hassles of flying?
And if you think this is not a real story, let me clue you in. The story came as a result of a statement made by the union representing the Border Patrol agents who are outraged that the restrictions at airports have been waived for these unknown aliens.
Must we first have a hijacking and a plane crashing into buildings before president Obama has a rational moment? It is inconceivable that in the middle of a time of terrorism, our government would put aside some of the most basic protections for the flying public. But that is just what they have done.
Whoever came up with this decision must be fired immediately. the Secretary of Homeland Security must be fired immediately. I would say the same for Obama, but we are stuck with him for another two plus years.
