Senator Menendez of New Jersey got some good news it seems when stories broke that there may be proof that it was the Cuban government that planted stories of Menendez frequenting underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. I have to say that I reported on those allegations in this blog, and if it turns out that it was the Castro regime that planted them, people should be made aware of this. It would be wrong to blame Menendez for going abroad to have sex with young girls if that did not happen. Okay, that's Menendez's good new.
Here's the bad news: There is no indication that the Cubans had anything to do with the allegations that Menendez took gifts from big contributors in exchange for helping them in their dealings with the federal government. We know that Menendez took gifts and then "forgot" to report them. The senator himself admitted that he took frequent rides on the private plane of his biggest contributor, a Florida doctor. One does wonder why a Florida doctor would be so supportive of a New Jersey senator. We also know that the Justice Department is investigating the help Menendez gave to that doctor in his dealings with Medicare and other federal agencies. Until that investigation is completed, we won't know if Menendez will be indicted. Maybe the tens of thousands of dollars worth of gifts the senator received and then "forgot" to report were just innocent oversights -- but maybe not. One thing is certain: the DOJ under Eric Holder normally does not investigate Democrats without a really good basis to do so. That does not bode well for Menendez.
