Lots of Hot Air But No Global Warming

The BBC has now decided that it will not allow anyone who does not accept the concept of global warming caused by human activity to speak on TV or radio in the UK.  In Britain, which one would expect to honor free speech, it has really come to a massive censorship effort as the only way to keep the global warming story going.

Just think about what we have seen in the last few weeks.

1.  The amount of ice cover in Antarctica has broken all time records.  For years, we were told by the global warming enthusiasts that higher temperatures would melt polar ice and flood the low lying areas of the land.  Decades later, we are told that there is now more ice than ever before (since records have been kept).

2.  The last winter in the USA was the coldest since 1898.  Sure, America is not the entire world, but it is a pretty big chunk of that world, and it hit extremely cold conditions.  Throw in Canada (which also had an extremely cold winter, and we have a much bigger chunk of the earth.  According to Al Gore (or Al Gornisht -- as I like to call him), by this year, we should have seen much, much warmer temperatures around the globe compared to just 15 years ago, but the USA had record cold.

3.  The first data from the US Climate Data Reference Network was released.  This network is comprised of 114 monitoring stations scattered throughout the USA at sites that were chosen to avoid the results being affected by nearby activity.  The data is unadjusted, so the big fights about how such adjustments are made have no effect here.  What the data shows is that in the last ten years, the average temperature in the USA has cooled by roughly 0.4 degrees Celsius.  That's correct; I said COOLED.  Clearly, this is not sufficient proof to show that there is no global warming; after all, this is just the USA.  This data, however, certainly supports the other, worldwide data that shows that atmospheric temperatures have remained steady for the last 17 years.  During all that time when the Global Warming crowd said we would be baking on the dry lake beds of the Earth, the temperature has not gone up.  During all those years when carbon dioxide flowed endlessly into the atmosphere, the temperature has not gone up.

The action by the BBC makes very clear that the global warming debate has changed from a scientific one to a political one.  Too many of the Global Warming crowd have moved away from logic, reason and scientific evidence to the old standby methods of intolerance, ignorance and censorship.  We need science to prevail if we are ever to advance.  The Global Warming crowd (including its cheer leader in the Oval Office) have to move back towards reason and away from the current intolerance of that group.
