The Depths of Depravity

Do you ever notice that we keep seeing video of Israeli civilians running to bomb shelters, but we never see civilians in Gaza doing the same thing?  We know that about 1800 missiles have been launched by the terrorist group Hamas at the Israelis, so there is plenty of reason for the Israelis at home to be running to shelters.  But we also know that the Israelis have retaliated with a great many air strikes on missile launch sites and Hamas headquarters and weapons storage locations in Gaza.  There are a large number of western reporters in Gaza itself.  So why are there no scenes of Palestinians taking cover in bomb shelters?

The answer is a sad one.  Hamas has not built and has not allowed construction of shelters in Gaza.  The terrorists made a decision some years ago that their cause would be better served if there were hundreds or thousands of civilian casualties than if those same civilians were protected in shelters.  That is why Hamas stores its missiles in schools and mosques.  The hope is that an Israeli counterattack will hit one of these schools and kill large numbers of children.  For Hamas, that would be something to celebrate.  After all, the world media could then stream video of the little victims and their crying families to viewers everywhere.  Hamas could denounce the Israelis as monsters.  But the truth is that it is Hamas and its members who are the monsters.  Imagine using children as human shields the way Hamas is doing right now.  That practice is so despicable that it is defined as a war crime by international law.

In the last day or so, Hamas has also started putting bombs on animals like donkeys and dogs and then sending them towards the Israelis where the bombs can detonate.  They have turned animals into suicide bombers.

Given these tactics by Hamas, there must be a huge cry of outrage from across the world, right?  Nope.  Well isn't at least PETA out there denouncing this use of animals as weapons of war?  Nope.  Aren't the leftist groups that always protest against one war crime or another (whether or not there really are any war crimes) out there denouncing Hamas?  Nope.  They are all too busy denouncing the Israelis.

It is time for the US government to start to speak with some measure of moral clarity.  President Obama and Secretary Kerry need to stop the talk about "restraint" and to talk instead about the moral depravity of Hamas that needs to be stopped.
