Time magazine has an article just released by Joe Klein that is worth some discussion. It's a joke. It's so bad that after I read it, I checked to make sure that this wasn't some parody designed to fool readers into believing that the article was real. Here's the substance of what Klein has to say: the Brexit vote in the UK like the hiring of Corey Lewandowski by CNN heralds a return to the grim world of the 1930s. He actually says that. Even more amazing, Time actually publishes this nonsense.
Just consider a few gems from Klein's article. According to Klein, the decision by Boris Johnson not to seek the position of prime minister in the UK "strengthens" Hillary Clinton's campaign for president in the USA. If I could ask Klein just one question, it would be to enquire how many American voters are likely to pick their favored candidate for president based upon whether or not Johnson runs to be the head of the Tories and prime minister of the UK. Will it be enough to swing electoral votes in New England? (That's as close as I could come to England in the USA.)
Or how about this: Klein says that Hillary Clinton's policy prescriptions for the economy are "complicated". Really? Again, I would ask Klein to tell me what those policy prescriptions are. Has he ever heard Hillary actually propose anything different from what president Obama has done aside from raising taxes further? I haven't. That would mean that her policies -- to the extent she has any -- are actually quite simple. All she has to say is "more of the same stuff that hasn't worked for the last eight years." That's only 13 words. Even for someone like Joe Klein, that cannot be described as "complicated".
Klein actually says that the biggest area of interest among the American people with regard to foreign policy is China, but that no one knows what president Obama thinks about it. Klein laments that Obama has yet to make a speech -- any speech -- in which he tells the nation his policy towards China. (Maybe Obama can tell us after he leaves office.) In true liberal fashion, however, Klein knows who to blame for the lack of a stated Obama policy towards China: it's the fault of the Republicans.
How can Time still be in business if it publishes articles like this garbage from Klein? It can't be in business for too much longer, that's for sure.
