Today on CNN, New York mayor Bill DeBlasio told the interviewer that the principal engine for division in America today is News Corp. He also said that News Corp. "made" Donald Trump.
It's a rather strange statement. The biggest news holding of News Corp in the USA is the Wall Street Journal which reports primarily on economic news. That shouldn't be a cause for division. News Corp also owns book publisher Harper Collins in the USA, but again, it's hard to see how that company could be causing much division. The remaining big assets of News Corp are in the UK and in Australia. Surely, DeBlasio doesn't think that some Australian newspaper is causing division in Cleveland or Minneapolis.
Without a doubt, DeBlasio was thinking of the old News Corp. That company ceased to exist years ago when it split into the current News Corp and 21st Century Fox. Most likely, DeBlasio was talking about Fox News and perhaps the paper in his city of New York that clearly doesn't like him, namely the New York Post. One would think that prior to going on TV and giving his opinion, DeBlasio would have checked with his staff about what he planned to say. They should have warned him that News Corp was the wrong target.
DeBlasio is certainly familiar with the concept of a name change. After all, he was born Warren Wilhelm. He only changed his name to DeBlasio when he decided to go into politics; he thought he might do better if people thought he was Italian.
What a phony and a dolt.
