The mainstream media is now making a big deal about the White House's response to the death of John McCain. For the record, President Trump sent his sympathy to the McCain family. Then he ordered the flag flown at half staff in accordance to the regulations that govern the funeral of a senator. For its part, the McCain family almost immediately let it be known that President Trump was not invited to the senator's funeral. Trump said nothing about that and nothing more about McCain.
So to the mainstream media that's an outrage? Really? What do they want, a Wellstone memorial? For those who cannot recall, senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota died in October 2012 right in the middle of a presidential election. A memorial was held for the senator in Minneapolis and the Dems turned it into a Republican-bashing campaign event. It blew up in their faces as many people were revolted by turning a funeral/memorial into a political event.
The simple truth is that Trump and McCain did not like each other. That's pretty clear. The President, however, gave McCain the honors to which he was entitled. That's as it should be. Indeed, the only reason that the mainstream media is so "upset" at the treatment of McCain is that it gives them a chance to bash Trump. Trump did not bash McCain and treated him and his family with respect. The Dems and the media need to give it a rest.
UPDATE: President Trump just issued a statement announcing that the flag will stay at half staff until McCain's funeral and some other details. I bet that we will now get articles denouncing Trump for taking so long and stating that the delay made the gestures meaningless. It doesn't matter what Trump does; for the media/Dems, it's always wrong.
