So, Is Any Of This True?

There's another of those NY Times stories about intrigue in the White House with regard to the Russia investigation.  This time, the target is the White House counsel Don McGahn.  According to the "sources" of the Times, McGahn has cooperated extensively with the special prosecutor in connection with the obstruction portion of the investigation.  The White House counsel was supposedly afraid that the President was setting him up to take the fall for obstruction, so he decided to cooperate fully with Mueller to make sure that nothing like that could happen.  Indeed, according to the same sources, McGahn calls Trump "King Kong" behind his back and doesn't like him at all.

Sorry, I don't believe it.  If there's no identifiable source, then this is just more of the usual BS from the Times.  And who would the source be?  Clearly, if McGahn has done this all surreptitiously for the last year, he is not going to suddenly leak the story himself.  And also, if the special prosecutor has some sort of back door into the White House, he is not going to allow it to be destroyed by leaking details about it.  So who exactly is leaking this stuff?  There really isn't anyone with a motive to leak in this way.

And if McGahn were really worried about being set up, then the best way to protect himself would be to resign, not to stay and feed info to Mueller.

None of this story makes sense.  It seems like the kind of thing that the Times reporters came up with to so discord among the White House staff.

We will have to wait and see how this plays out, but I'm betting that it just goes away quickly.
