The White House announced this afternoon that the USA would be cutting some $200 million in annual aid given to the Palestinian Authority. It's a very good move.
Think about it. The PA has been fighting against an American plan for peace with Israel. The president Mahmoud Abbas has already announced that the Palestinians oppose the American peace proposal. That's rather amazing since no American proposal has yet been put forward. In other words, the Palestinians treat an American proposal for peace much like the Democrats treated the President's latest nominee for the Supreme Court. It's an incredible bit of bad faith to oppose something when you don't yet know what it is.
On top of this, the PA continues to pay pensions and death benefits to Palestinian terrorists who attacked Israelis as well as to their families. American law requires that aid be cut off to entities that support terrorism. That means that this cut of $200 million is required by this law.
No doubt, the Democrats will tell us and the media will repeat that following American law as well as asking the Palestinians to keep an open mind about peace proposals is an unreasonable position put forward by the President. Of course, no matter what Trump said or did, the Dems and media would tell us it is unreasonable.
Still, it is important to recognize today's move as a proper and necessary part of American foreign policy.
