FBI Fires Peter Strzok

It's amazing.  The FBI fired Peter Strzok on Friday.  The decision was made by the Deputy Director.  Strzok, of course, is the agent who exchanged myriad text messages with his mistress Lisa Page (also then of the FBI) in which it appears they discussed and planned how to bring down Donald Trump.  Strzok, however, played a key role in the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email mess in 2016 and then moved on to the Russia-Trump investigation and even went to work for the special prosecutor.  The bias evidenced by the text messages should have kept Strzok off the team, but he was, instead, a major player.  Eventually, Mueller fired him.  Finally, after a long investigation, the FBI has followed suit.

The amazing thing is not that Strzok got fired.  That decision was a no brainer.  What's amazing is to read all the tweets about it castigating the FBI for violating Strzok's right to free speech.  How stupid is that?  The point is that the FBI is required to be non-partisan and unbiased.  Strzok was both highly partisan and biased and tried to cover it up so that he could achieve his political goals through the FBI.  At least that is how it looks.  For an FBI agent, that is an unforgiveable violation of his job duties.

I'm sure that Strzok will write some book and get a few million dollars in royalties from the never-Trump crowd.  He will do fine and will play the victim.  Still, the country and the FBI is better off with him gone.
