There's a Facebook post accusing Keith Ellison of domestic violence against his former girlfriend. The post purports to be by the 18 year old son of the girlfriend. In it, the son claims to have discovered videos of Ellison beating his mother (the girlfriend.) It's making quite a splash in Minnesota where Ellison is now running in Tuesday's primary for Attorney General. For the most part, this sounds like a last minute type of character attack by a primary opponent, except that Ellison's own tweets show pictures of the son and the girlfriend in repeated posts.
Think about this. Ellison is the vice chairman of the Democrat National Committee. He is a congressman who is leaving his seat to run for Minnesota AG. If it turns out that he is guilty of beating his girlfriend, it will be a major scandal and surely the end of his career. There's no way he could survive this if it turns out to be true.
I want to add again that these are unverified charges. Ellison may not have repeatedly beaten this woman. He may be innocent. One thing is certain: Ellison needs to respond to the charges quickly and forcefully. He should either resign (if they are true) or show why they are false if he can.
