The candidates for governor of CT were just decided as the primary results came in. This is going to be a true choice for the voters of this state.
The Democrat candidate will be Ned Lamont who is making has third or fourth try at winning a statewide race. He has yet to win. I listened to his victory speech. The focus of what he said is that he wants to make the state a "firewall" against Trump. Seriously, the budget is way out of balance, the state economy is stagnant, many more people are moving out than moving into the state, and unlike the rest of the country it is hard for young people to find good jobs here. So on what does Lamont focus? He doesn't have much to say about how to reinvigorate our economy. Instead, he's only worried about national politics and how he can help fight the President.
The Republican candidate is Bob Stefanowski, a businessman who has never run for office previously. Bob's whole focus in the campaign has been on his plans for restoring the state's economy through reducing the state income tax and the corporate tax. He also has plans to reduce state spending so that the budget will still balance despite the tax cuts. Stefanowski also has about 15 specific proposals for improving the economic climate in the state. To me, he seems like a guy who can finally get the CT economy moving again after decades of stagnation.
The voters are going to have to decide if they are more interested in fixing the problems faced by the state or having the governor spend his time fighting national symbolic battles against the president of the USA. For me, that's not a difficult choice. I want someone who will make things better for the average person in CT. Clearly, that means that Stefanowski has to win. After all, Ned Lamont doesn't seem to even focus on the average person in the state. I hope the rest of the voters agree with me in November.
