Democrat senator Walsh of Montana dropped his bid for re-election today in the wake of the scandal regarding his graduate degree. According to the New York Times, big sections of his thesis were just copied from the work of others. Walsh was already running way behind the Republican candidate in Montana so his dropping from the race ought not change much regarding the outcome. In truth, the only way the Democrats could have a chance would be if former governor Schweitzer changed his mind and decided to run for the seat. Even that eventuality would probably not be enough, however. In the last six months, Schweitzer has come out with some rather bizarre statements and positions even for a Montana politician.
