Tonight's big scoop from the AP is the supposed transcript of the conversation between the president of Mexico and President Trump by phone a few days ago. The AP supposedly got a small part of the transcript of the call in which President Trump told President Nieto of Mexico to have his military take care of the "bad hombres" or maybe the USA would have to send in its own troops. The problem with this news, however, is that there is no proof that it is true. In fact, the Mexican government denounced the story as completely untrue. The Trump administration had not commented on the story. In other words, what we have is probably more fake news from the AP. It is designed to make President Trump look like he is threatening an invasion of Mexico, something which seems particularly unlikely.
The sad thing about all this is that the AP is still publishing this stuff. They have no source who backs the validity of the transcript, but they publish it together with a note that the Mexicans say it is false and a note that they didn't yet get a comment from the White House. Why?
