Explosion in Central Park in Manhattan

Today's non-terrorist act consists of an explosion in Central Park in New York City.  An 18 year old was maimed by the blast and will likely lose his foot.  The victim was walking near the entrance to the Central Park Zoo on some rocks when the explosion occurred.  Police thought at first that this was the explosion of some Fourth of July fireworks that went off by mistake.  The other two boys with the victim told police, however, that they had no fireworks.

We will have to wait to see how this develops.  It would be scary to think that there was an IED planted by terrorists in Central Park neat the zoo where many children congregate with their families.  Still, if the boys are telling the truth about the fireworks (which the police will be easily able to verify), the possibility of a terrorist attack is most likely.

The terrorist deniers will no doubt soon start talking about the need for common sense bomb safety legislation.  Before that group gets started, however, let's pray for the recovery of the guy injured in the blast.
